Thing #4

Okay, I made the avatar and finally got it posted. There were a lot of images to look at, and it was way too much trouble to create my altar ego. So the regular Retired Librarian is pictured, rather than the one I'd like to be. Kind of like Clark Kent and Superman. Unfortunately, there were no gray-haired avatars and I chose not to look at the plus sizes. Then I got the blog registered at Library2Play (I hope) and the day is shot. Now I have to do all the stuff I planned to do today! It was interesting, though. The next thing to do is play with Flickr, which I've done a little bit before. And I saw a new gadget for your digital camera on a TV piece about best electronic gifts for Christmas. It's a wireless memory card called an Eye-Fi. All you have to do after you've set it up is take pictures, then turn on the camera when you get back to your home computer, and it will transfer your pictures directly to your computer and/or a service like Flickr. That sounds good but it's probably not as easy as they say. It's $99.

Thing #3

Well, I decided to create the blog. I can see the value of blogs in educational settings, but there are very few blogs I really like. So I keep thinking, "Wow, I'm sure glad I retired before I had to learn to do all this stuff." Then I decided to do it. Well, I was in the middle of creating the blog when the electricity went out in our house. I had done enough that my blog was saved, but when I got back on the site I was really confused about where I was in the process and what I needed to do. I think this may be a sign that I'm not supposed to do this. Now I'm going to see about creating the avatar and registering the blog at Library2Play. Then I really have to quit!

Thing #2

The 7-1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners - Well, the habit that's hardest for me is the first one - begin with an end in mind. I never want to commit myself. If I have a goal I'm supposed to be committed to finish. In this case, I don't know if I want to commit the time. Or if I really want to be a lifelong learner. The habit that is easiest for me is to be responsible for my own learning. If I really decide to commit, then I'll probably spend way too much time figuring something out. And that's one reason I'm not sure I want to do this.

Thing #1

I read this about 6 times, trying to decide if I really want to do this. Do I really want to learn about what I'd be doing if I weren't retired? Not sure. Will I finish this? Not sure.
